HC-Pedia Entry

HEPA

HEPA is the acronym for high efficiency particulate air, an air-filter standard that’s important to people with allergies or those sensitive to dust or smoke. HEPA filtration removes 99.97 percent of all particles 0.3 microns and larger.

Many vacuum cleaners are now using HEPA filters. There is a difference between “true HEPA” and “HEPA-like”, the former being more costly, but assuring the user of its effectiveness provided the filter is properly sized, placed and sealed on the vacuum. Filtration placed so as to clean the air passing through the vacuum’s motor will catch any fine carbon brush dust from the motor itself.
