Typically a powder, dishwasher detergent is sold in bulk packages as well as in solid “pills” or dissolvable pouches. These products are suitable for use only in automatic dishwashers. Don’t use dishwasher detergent for hand washing dishes or other general cleaning purposes — the alkalis it contains to counteract hard water will also dry and irritate skin.
