Cellulosic Browning

Brownish discoloration on a carpet or rug after cleaning may be cellulosic browning. Cellulose carpet fibers in jute carpet or rug backings may discolor when exposed to moisture, certain cleaning chemicals, and slow drying. Aging jute fibers can produce brown or reddish colorants which wick to the carpet surface after cleaning.
