Prized by cooks for decades for its no-stick surface and easy cleanup, Teflon® cookware is highly vulnerable to scratching from harsh cleaning tools. In normal use, a wet sponge or cloth, warm water and dishwashing liquid should be all that’s needed to clean Teflon® cookware by hand.

Teflon® pots and pans may be placed in a dishwasher for thorough cleanings without damaging the surface, but doing so shouldn’t be necessary in routine use.

Teflon® is non-toxic, and its chemical components cannot be transferred to foods cooked at normal temperatures. However, avoid heating an empty Teflon®-coated utensil on a stove or in a range. Teflon® can be damaged at temperatures above 500oF/260oC – well above the heat used to cook virtually all foods.
