Stainmaster

Stainmaster®-brand carpeting is touted as being resistant to staining or permanent discoloration. This feature doesn’t release owners from following normal procedures for care and cleaning, however.

All carpeting needs vacuuming on a regular basis to prevent dust and dirt from damaging the pile. An occasional deep cleaning with a wet-extraction system will remove embedded soils. Dirt and soils act as abrasives on fibers, causing the carpet to become dull.

Vacuum Stainmaster® carpeting once a week in normal use, and more often in high-traffic areas such as halls and stairs. Professional hot water extraction cleaning is necessary every 18-24 months to maintain the carpet warranty.

Spot removal should be done as soon as the spill is noticed.

To remove spills:

  • Pick up the spill with a clean, white towel. Blot, but don’t rub, to avoid spreading the spot. You may also use a wet-dry vacuum cleaner, but verify that the nozzle end is clean before putting it onto the carpet.

  • Apply a small amount of clean, lukewarm water to the spot. Blot this out with clean, dry towels until the spot no longer wicks up into the cloth.

  • If discoloration remains, add three drops of clear dishwashing liquid to a cup (240 ml) of lukewarm water, apply a small amount of the solution to the spot and wait five minutes. Blot up the solution and then apply a small amount of clean water to rinse. Compress several clean, dry towels over the spot with a heavy object and allow the towels to “wick up” remaining discoloration and moisture for several hours. It’s OK to let the towels sit in place overnight.

After removing the weight and towels and allowing the carpet to dry, vacuum the area to restore the carpet’s texture.

While Stainmaster® brand carpeting may be resistant to food and drink stains, animal wastes will probably not be covered by the warranty.
