Sheers are translucent white curtains hung between windows and drapes to reduce the amount of ultraviolet light that reaches home furnishings. Without sheers, blinds, or shades, ultraviolet radiation will fade colors and, eventually, degrade fabrics. Sheers are lightweight enough to allow daylight to pass through, but their weave is tight enough to block much of the incoming UV radiation. While decorative drapes are most at risk, UV also threatens carpets, rugs and upholstery.
Most types of sheers are machine washable, so dust and dirt removal is a snap. Check care labels and be sure to use gentle cycles in both the washer and dryer.
