Sodium bicarbonate is often used as a deodorizer and a mild abrasive cleaner in many applications around the home. An open box can be used for controlling odors in the refrigerator and freezer and, as suggested by a well-known advertising campaign, baking soda can be used to freshen all types of drains when it’s time to replace the boxes in the refrigerator and freezer with fresh ones.

When mixed with a small amount of
water,
baking soda paste acts as a mild
bleach that will remove stubborn spots from hard surfaces. A number of experts also recommend it for cleaning the stubborn dirt that adheres to the no-slip surfaces applied to the bottoms of
bathtubs, for example.
