Wood veneers, particles or fibers bonded together with adhesives under heat and pressure are all pressed-wood products. Plywood, particle board, fiberboard (MDF) and oriented strand board (OSB) are examples. All such unprotected wood surfaces readily absorb oil, grease and liquids of all kinds, sometimes causing irreversible stains. Except for plywood, it is difficult to seal these products completely, making them difficult to keep clean and stain-free over the long term.
Vacuuming with a brush attachment is the best way to clean unsealed pressed wood since it removes dust from the grain of the wood as well as the surface.
Since the surface is porous, wet cleaning should be avoided, or at least approached very carefully. Applying a wet cleaner to the surface may drive the soil deeper into the wood and or damage the wood, so a process that applies a minimal amount of solution then vacuums it away is best.
Caution: Some particle boards will readily disintegrate when wet.
