Alabaster

This is a porous variety of gypsum that can be damaged or permanently stained by direct application of water. For this reason, place fresh flowers in a water-filled glass inside an alabaster vase. Clean alabaster with a cloth moistened with soapy water, then remove stains using a cotton ball dampened with either lemon juice or turpentine.
