Millions of illnesses and thousands of deaths in the United States can be traced to contaminated food. The symptoms of food poisoning can last for days and include abdominal pains, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and fever. It is often caused by unclean conditions in the kitchen.
Be sure to control bacteria in the kitchen by regularly cleaning cutting board and other surfaces in hot soapy water followed by a hot water rinse.
A good trick to kill bacteria in sponges is to microwave them for about a minute — you can do the same with wood cutting boards, but put them in for five minutes.
