Rebecca Kolls

Master Gardener Rebecca Kolls knows her dirt — she's been digging in the garden most of her life! It was a passion passed down from her mentor, her grandfather. "I spent many summers getting my hands dirty in my grandfather's garden. He was the one who taught me to be kind to the earth, to give back, and to pass the spirit on." And indeed she has. For 11 years Rebecca hosted NBC's nationally syndicated show Rebecca's Garden. She's been the lifestyles and gardening contributor for ABC's Good Morning America since 1998, is the author of the book Rebecca's Garden: Four Seasons to Grow On, and now publishes her own magazine, Seasons by Rebecca. Rebecca is a sought-after speaker and has appeared on many national talk shows such as: Oprah, CNN, Regis and Kathy Lee, Tony Danza, NBC's Weekend Today Show, The Other Half, and many more. She has been featured in numerous national magazines and newspapers.

Kolls' roots are planted in Salt Lake City, Utah. After spending her first 12 years there, her father was transferred to Kansas, where she discovered her fascination with weather. She attended the University of Kansas and received a degree in Atmospheric Science. Upon graduation Kolls returned to Salt Lake City and launched her career as a meteorologist: first at KTVX-TV and later at KUTV. It was at this time that her passion for the outdoors blossomed, and she became certified as a Master Gardener at the University of Utah. Using meteorology as an opportunity to educate a wider audience, Kolls' nightly forecasts began to include helpful gardening tips. In 1992 her expertise and screen presence landed her a job at WCCO-TV Minneapolis as Chief Meteorologist. Among satellite dishes and skyscrapers in downtown Minneapolis, Kolls cultivated a 4,000-square-foot garden on the roof of WCCO-TV, which became locally famous as the "roof-top garden."

Popular with viewers in Minneapolis and a standout among other meteorologists because of her on-air gardening tips, Kolls was featured as a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show. That appearance caught the attention of executives at Hearst-Argyle Productions, who were searching for someone to host a new nationally syndicated TV series on gardening. Impressed with her television savvy, weather-forecasting background, and down-to-earth nature, Hearst-Argyle executives selected Kolls to host the program and named it after her. The series was nationally syndicated and carried on local TV stations throughout the country. It also aired on the Home & Garden Television Network on a regular basis.

Kolls currently resides in Wisconsin with her husband and their two children. They love camping, golfing, hockey and the Green Bay Packers!
