First, verify that there’s ink in both cartridges. Virtually all computer printers have a cleaning cycle that is the first step in maintenance. In some models, the cycle can be run several times, providing a stronger cleaning with each cycle.
Keep the printer closed when it's not in use to keep dust from collecting on the mechanical components inside. Like many electrical appliances, printers are typically housed in high-impact plastic that may be cleaned with denatured alcohol (equal parts rubbing alcohol and water). Stubborn grime may be treated with rubbing alcohol applied from a cotton swab or paper towel.
Caution: Always unplug the printer before cleaning any part of it, and never spray or pour any liquid inside the printer or any electrical appliance.
