Dust-free Drilling

One of the dustiest messes is made when drilling into a drywall or plaster surface. You can always put down a drop cloth to help but the dust will still travel all over the room. A shop vac with the hose right up near where you are working can catch most of the dust.

Of course this method will not work that well when drilling into a ceiling. A foam or paper cup with a hole drilled through the bottom can capture the dust in this scenario. After you have drilled the hole in the cup leave the cup over the drill bit. Place the bit on your mark and then move the cup up tight against the ceiling to catch the dust. Wear safety glasses when drilling. Before moving on to the next hole be sure to empty your cup.
