By using a four-step process to filter the air of particles, odors and fumes, the Friedrich C-90B provides fresh, clean air and reduces breathing problems for those with allergies and respiratory sensitivity.
1. The pre-filter catches the larger particles as room air is drawn through the unit.
2. In the ionizing section of the electronic cell, billions of microscopic particles become electrically charged as they pass through a powerful electric field.
3. Collector plates immediately attract and hold these "charged" particles.
4. Finally, an activated carbon filter removes most common odors and fumes as the cleaned air is circulated back into the room.
Does the C-90B electronic air cleaner produce any ozone?
As with any electric appliance, the Friedrich Electronic Air cleaner does produce small amounts of ozone. During standardized industry testing at a Nationally Recognized Testing Labratory (NRTL), the highest ozone level measured was .014 parts per million (PPM). By comparison, the maximum allowable indoor concentration recommended by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and UL is .050 PPM. Under normal conditions, ozone is very reactive to most surfaces and will convert rapidly to oxygen.
Do I need to replace the pre-filter?
The nylon pre-filter is the first stage of the cleaning process. It stops large airborne particles, such as dust, pet dander and pet hair. The pre-filter can be removed and cleaned with mild soap and water, then returned to the unit. Friedrich does not recommend replacing the pre-filter unless the original is lost or damaged.
How do I clean the electronic cell on the C-90B?
To clean the electronic cell/collector plates and maintain optimal performance, lift it out and submerge it in a bathtub or other suitable container with mild detergent, or simply put it in your automatic dishwasher.
How often should I replace the carbon filter?
The carbon filter provides a final phase of cleaning, including an effective deodorizing (gas removal) effect. You should replace the carbon filter every 4-6 months, depending on how active the unit is and the amount of airborne odors/gases in your room.
How large an area will the C-90B handle?
The C-90 will effectively clean the air in an area up to 480 square feet.
How do I know which air cleaners are really effective?
The Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) is the standard by which portable room air cleaners are evaluated. You will generally see CADRs expressed for the three most common types of pollutants: Tobacco Smoke, Dust and Pollen. CADR refers to the amount of clean air provided by an air cleaner each minute of operation, measured in cubic feet.
