Central vacuums have a number of advantages over portable vacuums. The units are both quieter and more powerful than typical uprights or canisters. They have larger collection tanks and greater filter capacity. The higher suction they provide helps to remove more soil and allergens from the home, and the systems are vented to the garage or outside further protecting indoor air. Studies show a measurable improvement in indoor air quality when vacuums are exhausted outside the home.
While it's true that all central systems are quieter because the power source is located outside the living area, the SilentMaster power unit is so quiet it could be mounted inside the living space.
