Open It is a device designed specifically to open packages. Over the past few years packaging has reached an all-time high as a source of irritation with most consumers. One of the main culprits is the hard-shelled bubble that seems to be impenetrable by any normal pair of scissors. Open It does the job with hardened and plated steel, honed jaws. These are angled so you won’t cut yourself on the sharp plastic while trying to extract the product from the packaging.
The last feature is a small, retractable utility knife. My complaint about this part of the device is that while the retractable blade is a safety feature, you have to hold the blade lever down while manipulating the cutting action. It was awkward to use and almost seemed like one too many features for one device. It would be nice to see the knife lock into cutting position, so it could be easier to use.
The feature that counts most is the device's ability to Open It, whatever “It” is — and at that, Open It succeeds.
