If you are looking for a vacuum that works great and also looks great, this is the one for you.
Out of the box
Men will love the look of this vacuum as it comes from the box. This is no ordinary vacuum cleaner. The unique, squat shape of the unit indicates a vacuum with personality. Two of the included accessories sit in molded seats on top of the canister, which is a plus when working in tight corners, as many vacuums tend to lose their attachments when bumping into walls or furnishings.
The other attachment (a crevice tool) fits snugly on the side of the vacuum, protected partially by the waste canister when vacuuming.
Going to work
The DC14 works like the other Dyson models … simply hold down the cleaning head with your foot, pull back the handle and push the “on” button. This unit is a little smaller, but feels the same as the previous model while you use it. It moves easily forward and backwards.
Noise level on the DC14 is a bit better than the DC07 … it isn’t quiet, by any standards, but very comfortable.
The hose – with handle - releases easily for vacuuming edges. The telescoping wand, a neat feature on the DC14, reaches areas you might have been ignoring.
The attachments are easy to get to and do not fall off.
Clutter and debris are easily collected from carpeted surfaces and do not redeposit onto the floor; similar features are found in the DC07.
The vacuum suction and airflow ability of this unit is superb.
This vacuum is good for creating healthy homes. It has HEPA filtration.
All in all, the positive features are very similar to the DC07. The DC14 is a little smaller, a little lighter, and has a smaller receptacle canister, but performance change was not noticed.
The down side
On the other hand, the DC14 shares some of the negative attributes of the DC07, including:
- Weight of the vacuum
- The cleaning lever to switch from carpet to hard floors is hard to manipulate by foot — use your hand instead
- The adequate but not excellent performance on hard floors
As to the hard floor performance, in fairness you can use the telescoping wand and an optional floor attachment, utilizing the suction and airflow ability of the Dyson.
The telescoping wand, while easy to use, can be difficult to push back into its holder. With a little practice, it gets easier.
