The Dyson DC07 All Floors cyclone upright vacuum cleaner is a great addition to the cleaning arsenal of the modern, busy family.
Setting Up
Like most new appliances, be sure to read the directions. The Dyson DC07, while easy to assemble, can stump the average “I don’t need directions to put this thing together” homeowner. Spend a few moments with the user guide.Once the vacuum is complete and standing upright, it had a tendency to lean, giving the appearance that it was about to fall on its back. It’s just an appearance, however. The balance is very good.
Using It
The DC07 is very easy to use. To use the unit, you simple hold down the base of the vacuum and the handle releases the cleaning head. No buttons or latches to hunt in vain. The ergonomic handle helps keep strain off of twist points of the arm and the entire unit moves forward and backwards very easily over any type of carpeted surface.
Some vacuums on the market today have a tendency to be harder to either push or pull; the Dyson DC07 moves easily in either direction.
A huge plus is the plastic “guard” at the front of the vacuum head, right before the vacuum slot. You can push obstacles out of the way without sucking them into the beater bar assembly, requiring time and tears of sweat trying to extricate a shoelace, string or many other unwanted items. This is a nice bonus when trying to vacuum around other textiles, such as area rugs and bedding that touches the floor, or when working around other power cords.
Like the other Dyson models, the DC07 picks up large debris and smaller, hard-to-vacuum soils such as kitty litter, sand, etc. Many vacuums tend to lift these soils into the beater bar assembly and dance them around, only to redeposit them onto the carpet once the vacuum is turned off.
You can easily witness the soil removed from your carpet in the clear, bagless canister. Don’t be surprised to fill the unit up on your first vacuuming. The vacuum suction and airflow of this unit is superb.
With HEPA filtration claims, this vacuum may be a solid choice for creating healthier homes.
The 17-foot hose and removable wand are good for vacuuming edges and stairs. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you have a feel for the system, you will enjoy this feature.
Although the vacuum isn’t as quiet as expected, it doesn’t have that irritating, high-pitched vacuum whine. The sound is “deeper” than most vacuums and pets in the area were not as alarmed compared to some of Dyson’s competitors.
A terrific feature addresses dumping the waste. Simply hold the bagless canister over a trash receptacle and pull the release button at the top of the container. No more turning over a canister to dump the waste, receiving a puff-back of smelly soil in your face.
It doesn’t get any easier.
The Negatives
The vacuum is a bit heavy, but this is only a drawback if you have a multi-story home. It moves easily when in use.On the cleaning head, there is a lever to transition the unit from carpeted surface to hard floors. It isn’t very easy to use with your foot, but easy to bend down and manipulate by hand.
Most vacuums are made for carpet, but many say they are good for hard floors. The Dyson DC07 works adequately on hard floors, at best. It’s not good enough to give up the dust mop or broom.
