The Oreck XL21 Upright Vacuum boasts seven layers of filtration (HEPA) with a self-sealing vacuum bag to lock in dirt, dust and allergens. There is a cloth outer bag and then a paper vacuum bag inside which is sealed to prevent dust from escaping when the bag is changed.
Of note is the weight on the XL21. At just 8 lbs. this is a featherweight when compared to most other vacs which usually weigh in at 15 lbs. or greater. Aside from less weight on the main unit, the XL21 comes with a separate 5 lb. canister vac including all the accessory tools. Oreck’s theory is why carry the tools unless you need them? Tools you only use occasionally can get in the way so we think this is a nice option.
The number 21 on the Oreck XL21 refers to the 21 FREE annual tune-ups. A great feature and selling point.
Cleaning with the Oreck XL21 Upright Vacuum
The Oreck XL21 was very easy to use, thanks in part to the ergonomic handle that seemed to cut down the time we spent vacuuming due to the ease of pushing and pulling.
Previous models have had trouble with pet hair but we did not find this to be the case even with a long-haired Australian Shepherd dog. We were very impressed by XL21’s ability to pick up sand on hardwood floors.
Overall, the Oreck XL21 Upright Vacuum, while pricey, is a great and effective upright vacuum with an excellent warranty.
